Network Cabling Specialist

A Network Cabling Specialist installs, tests, labels and maintains low voltage communication distribution systems and signal sources to the terminal or equipment at the end of distribution systems, which comprise the architecture that supports voice, video and data transmissions within industrial, commercial, institutional and office complexes. Specifically, a Network Cabling Specialist:

  • plans and prepares for installations
  • performs cable installations using hand and power tools
  • installs cable support infrastructure
  • terminates and splice inside and outside plant cables
  • performs labelling, testing and documentation of installations
  • performs networking installations
  • troubleshoots cable systems
  • develops and maintains positive client relations

Optics Technician (Lens and Prism Maker)

An Optics Technician (Lens and Prism Maker):

  • Produces precision spherical and plane optics to specifications
  • Corrects lens/prisms surfaces to optimum quality
  • Checks with interferometer and spectrometer
  • Inspects, cements, and aligns optical components to optical axes
  • Coats optics with anti-reflecting or high reflecting coats

Packaging Machine Mechanic

A Packaging Machine Mechanic performs some or all of the following:

  • Repair, adjust, maintain, and monitor machines and equipment that package products
  • Set up packaging line to accommodate various products, package dimensions, and production volumes
  • Adjusts guides, belts, conveyor speeds, drive and transfer mechanisms to required tolerances
  • Initiates start up
  • Observes line in operation
  • Identifies trouble areas
  • Advises maintenance management of recurrent problems
  • Refers complex electrical and mechanical repairs to certified personnel
  • Cleans and lubricates machine components to ensure fluid operation

A Painter and Decorator — Commercial and Residential applies decorative and protective finishes in residential, commercial, and institutional settings. Specifically, a Painter and Decorator — Commercial and Residential:

  • reads specifications to determine quantities of materials required
  • prepares and cleans surfaces using methods such as scraping, sanding, sandblasting, hydro-blasting and steamcleaning
  • mixes coatings according to manufacturer’s specifications
  • applies coatings using brushes, rollers or spray equipment
  • practices quality control
  • assembles and erects scaffolding, swing stages and other access equipment

Painter and Decorator — Industrial

A Painter and Decorator — Industrial applies protective finishes in commercial, institutional and industrial settings. They prepare a variety of surfaces (wood, masonry, drywall, plaster, concrete, synthetics, stucco and metal) prior to the application of materials such as paint, high performance coatings, waterproofing, fireproofing, and specialty finishes. Specifically, a Painter and Decorator — Industrial:

  • reads specifications to determine quantities of materials required
  • prepares and cleans surfaces using methods, such as scraping, sanding, sandblasting, hydro-blasting and steamcleaning
  • mixes coatings according to manufacturer’s specifications
  • applies coatings using brushes, rollers or spray equipment
  • practices quality control

Parts Technician

A Parts Technician performs ordering, warehousing, inventory control and sales of parts, servicing a range of industries including motive power, appliance, heavy duty equipment and natural resources. Specifically, a Parts Technician:

  • provides customer service and advice
  • maintains, handles and warehouses stock
  • identifies and catalogues parts and assemblies
  • orders, receives, inspects, sorts, maintains inventories and prices and sells supplies, parts and assemblies
  • processes exchanges and returns
  • prepares statements
  • maintains records

Pattern Maker

A Pattern Maker:

  • Reads and interprets complex engineering drawings, pattern drawings and work process documentation
  • Designs and creates foundry patterns and core boxes from metal, wood, plastic and polystyrene for parts and components cast from metal
  • Builds precision pattern tooling using wood and metal cutting machines and equipment, including saws, drills, grinders, lathes, mills and electrical discharge machines
  • Performs work-in-process measuring and checking using specialized and precision tools and equipment

Powered Lift Truck Technician

A Powered Lift Truck Technician inspects, diagnoses and repairs lift truck equipment. Powered lift trucks are powered through electric motors or internal combustion engines designed to lift and transport material. Specifically, a Powered Lift Truck Technician:

  • inspects, diagnoses and services powered lift truck systems, including: electrical, steering, braking, hydraulic, frames, transmissions, drive axles, suspension, and wheels and lifting systems pertaining to powered lift truck equipment
  • diagnoses and services drive units and control systems in electric vehicles
  • troubleshoots and repairs powered lift truck internal combustion engines
  • uses safety techniques for lifting, rigging, blocking, and lockout devices
  • operates hand, power, specialized, precision, and electronic service tools to make required repairs
  • prepares estimates, work plans and communicates with customers on problems and repairs

Powerline Technician

A Powerline Technician constructs, maintains and repairs overhead and underground electrical power transmission and distribution systems and communication networks. Specifically, a Powerline Technician:

  • prepares work plans
  • installs, maintains and removes power system poles and maintains transmission towers and structures
  • installs and maintains overhead and underground power systems
  • splices and terminates conductors and related wiring to connect power distribution and transmission networks
  • troubleshoots overhead and underground power systems
  • installs, maintains and removes transformers and hardware
  • installs, operates and maintains system protection, control and instrumentation equipment and communications systems
